The RHS Garden Bridgewater has finally been able to open it’s doors for 2021 and the impressive 156 acre garden local to Hedges Direct in Worsley, Salford is every gardeners dream. If you are devoid of inspiration and ideas, look no further as not only is it filled with both native and exotic plants on a vast scale, they are situated in gorgeous themed gardens to help you create your own RHS inspired garden. The gardens also have a stunning café that sits on the lake making it the perfect spot for a coffee and a cake.
The RHS master plan for RHS Garden Bridgewater will embrace the site’s heritage while also giving it a future.
Commenting on the plans, broadcaster and RHS Vice President, Alan Titchmarsh MBE, said: ‘The development of the RHS’ new fifth Garden will be the biggest hands-on gardening project the charity will have undertaken in its 211-year history. Watching how RHS Garden Bridgewater takes shape and grows is going to be fascinating, especially some of the major restoration projects like the Walled Kitchen Garden.’
‘Everyone deserves access to beautiful landscapes and glorious gardens, and for people living in Manchester and Salford, having an RHS Garden on your doorstep is a real horticultural treat.’
With all the lovely weather we have been having, it would have been rude for us not to pop down for a visit to keep on trend with all the latest gardening styles.
So Let’s Have A Look At Some Of The Plants We Spotted At RHS Garden Bridgewater
Hedging Plants
There was no shortage of hedging plants on display at the RHS Garden Bridgewater. Planting a hedge not only looks more aesthetically pleasing than a wooden fence, it also comes with a whole host of features such as being wildlife friendly and it is also a great solution for urban gardens as it is a great absorbent of air and noise pollution
Garden Shrubs
Garden shrubs are an easy and quick fix to add style, colour & texture to any garden and if you need some inspiration on how to add garden shrubs to your outdoor space, we have selected our favourites from the various gardens within RHS Bridgewater.
Amongst the garden shrubs was the popular Alliums, Dianthus, Dogwood and Ornamental Grasses. Ornamental grasses are ideal to add texture, movement, colour and even height to a garden planting scheme. They are often used to complement other plants by softening lines and adding a contrasting look and style that enhances the overall interest and aesthetic of the scheme.
Topiary
One of the most impressive features RHS Garden Bridgewater featured was the spectacular range of Topiary shapes. From the striking Yew Pyramids to the neatly pruned Yew Topiary domes, these shapes were visible from almost everywhere within the grounds.
We have a wide range of Topiary plants in a variety of popular species such as Box, Yew and Bay Laurel. Shapes include topiary balls, pyramids, cones, spirals, standards, cubes and domes. Topiary is both elegant and eye-catching, perfect for adding style and structure to gardens and urban spaces alike.
Pleached Trees & Instant Hedging Elements
Another equally as stunning and impressive product featured in the gardens was the vast range of pleached trees and instant hedging elements.
Easily recognised by their distinctive square crowns and straight stems, pleached trees are a timeless and elegant way to bring interest and height to gardens of any size. Pleached trees are also a perfect way to bring privacy and shade to your outdoor space.
Instant hedging elements offer a versatile alternative to trough grown instant hedging. Instead of being grown in troughs, instant hedging elements are grown in fields in the same way as our standard rootballed hedging. Over several years however, they are expertly nurtured and shaped to create unique hedging columns that are mature and ready to plant for instant impact in your garden.
The beauty of this garden really does need to be seen to be appreciated, not only to experience it’s huge size, but to appreciate the amount of work and design that has gone in to it. We cannot recommend a visit to this stunning garden enough and we encourage you to get down and be inspired for your own ideas for that perfect garden transformation.
